Installation
Guide Flooring
Facts Warranty Scheduling
Installation We
will make every effort to schedule your installation on the day you request. However, we do need a few days notice, especially on large
jobs. You may request morning or
afternoon, however, we cannot give an exact time.
Please
read the following information to assure a smooth carpet installation.
It informs you
what needs to be done to prepare for the installation. Furniture The
room should be free of all furniture before installation can proceed.
We will assist you, for a charge, in moving some of your larger items.
Please remember, for both your protection and ours, if rooms are
not cleared of furniture before installation, our company Will Not be
liable for any damage that might occur directly or indirectly while handling
your property. ·
Remove all valuables, lamps, plants, knickknacks, etc. ·
Remove dishes and crystal from hutch cabinets. ·
Strip bed linens if bedroom is being carpeted. ·
Clear closet floors and at least four feet from the floor up if closet is being
carpeted. Specialty
Items We
all have some valued items in our homes that require the utmost care and
expertise to move. We know you will
want to have these items moved by experts, as we will not be able to move them.
We cannot move grand or baby grand pianos, grandfather clocks, waterbeds,
aquariums, computers, stereo sound systems, big screen TVs (TVs larger than 27
inch), entertainment centers, antiques, or pool tables. Kitchen,
Bath, and Utility Rooms Please disconnect washer, dryer, refrigerator, icemaker, and all gas appliances. We recommend for your safety, that a gas company or plumber disconnect and reconnect these appliances. At your request, arrangements can be made to move disconnected appliances. If we are installing hard or resilient flooring in your bathroom, it will be necessary to have the stool pulled and reset by a plumbing professional. Doors When
carpeting is installed there is a possibility that the doors may not clear and
swing freely. If this is the case
we will not be able to plane or cut them down.
We regret that we cannot perform this service, but it requires special
tools and expertise that we are unable to provide. MoldingsAll quarter round must be removed before the installation can be done. Regrettably, some scratching may occur during carpet installation. This is caused by the stiffness of the carpet backing. It is advisable to keep some paint for touch up. Stairs Normal stair installation requires cutting and fitting to the sides and draping carpet over each step into a waterfall. There is a nominal charge for this type of installation. More elaborate installations carry additional charges depending upon the type. Seams As
your salesperson has no doubt explained, most carpet installations require the
use of seams. This is because of
the width of the carpet or to enable us to make the best use of the total carpet
purchased. We use the finest
seaming techniques in the industry and spend a great deal of time preparing and
joining the seams so you will receive trouble free service.
McCool’s
cannot guarantee any seam to BE invisible.
Even though our installers are
skilled craftsmen, you may be able to see the seams.
Some are more visible than others. This
is quite normal and should be expected. Pattern
Matching Some
of today’s multi-tone carpet fabrics do not have a pattern
or color match. Unless the
carpet mill specifically calls for matching we cannot consider it part of the
installation. Disposal
of Old Carpet The
installation team will pick up larger trimmings and take the old carpet to the
trash pick up point on your property. There
is an additional charge for us to provide a contractor to remove the old
carpeting from your property. Installation There
may be problems that may not be seen until the actual installation has begun.
Such as, but not limited to, bad concrete, sub-floor unevenness,
separated boards, loose flooring, black adhesive, padding or carpeting that is
stuck to the floor. Please
understand there may be additional charges for labor and material.
The customer is responsible when someone else installs a sub-floor or
repairs the floor. We cannot be held responsible for their material or
workmanship. No refunds or allowances will be made on special orders once flooring has been ordered.
Flooring
Facts 1)
Seams are not invisible (in
carpet or vinyl). 2)
All carpets will show footprints and sweeper marks.
Berbers, sculptures, and commercial loops will show the least. 3)
All carpets mat and crush.
The tighter the twist and more dense the construction, the less matting
and crushing will occur. 4)
Carpet and vinyl are stain resistant,
NOT STAIN PROOF. 5)
A blacktop drive can discolor carpet and vinyl. 6)
High heel shoes can INDENT vinyl and carpet. 7)
Heavy objects can leave indentations in both carpet and vinyl. 8)
Black adhesive can bleed through new materials. 9)
Throw rugs can discolor vinyl flooring. 10)
Excess moisture will cause vinyl to turn purplish-gray. 11)
Moving heavy objects such as stoves and refrigerators (even on rollers)
can damage floorings. 12)
Carpet backings are very rough.
Some scuffing of woodwork and walls are to be expected. 13)
Improper furniture casters can damage floors. 14)
“Shedding” - Your new carpet
will shed small bits of fibers for up to six months. Do not be alarmed if your vacuum fills up quickly. 15)
“Roll Marks”
- You may see shaded areas or lines across the width of your new carpet.
These result from the weight of the carpet resting on itself during
storage. These marks will disappear
in time with normal traffic and vacuuming.
If roll marks are still visible after 90 days, please call us. 16)
“Tie Marks” - These are what
appear to be lines in your new carpet, usually about 18” long on either side
of the carpet. This is where string
has been tied around the roll to keep it from unrolling. These will disappear with normal traffic and vacuuming over
time. 17)
“Seam Peaking” - A natural
occurrence due to the physics of power stretching a carpet combined with the use
of seam tape. The only way to
eliminate this is to glue carpet directly to the floor. Providing you with the best products and service is of the utmost importance to us. We hope to achieve your complete satisfaction and appreciate your permitting us to serve you. We hope you will receive many years of enjoyment from your new floor covering.
